Artificial Intelligence

Each week seems to bring news of “advancements” in computer science as it pertains to Artificial Intelligence or AI.  There are obviously those who would promote an accelerated implementation of this new science into the systems and processes that govern the way we live.  They believe that computers will be able to make informed, educated decisions that dwarf man’s ability to reason.  What could go wrong?  Some of us old-timers have started to question whether the only true “Artificial Intelligence” is the intelligence of those who would so blindly risk such a quantum leap of utter dependence—one that could potentially preclude our ability to reverse directions.  Perhaps future generations will say, “Maybe they weren’t so smart after all.”

This reminds me of some verses of scripture, “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. (1Corinthians 1:27-29)”  The point is that God has a monopoly on knowledge and wisdom—Genuine Intelligence.  What men of the world consider to be wise, God deems foolish.  And the true wisdom of God is viewed as foolish by “wise men” who don’t know Him.

I am sure that these few words will not convince the skeptics, but if you are a believer, do not forget, God is the source of all wisdom and knowledge.  The sciences are God’s playground for learned men to try to discover how He designed things to be as they are.  For the wisdom that makes life worthwhile, He invites, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. (James 1:5)”  You will quickly learn that His way of thinking is different from the wisest of men.  “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8-9)”
