The Bible Stands

  The Bible stands like a rock undaunted ’Mid the raging storms of time;

Its pages burn with the truth eternal,And they glow with a light sublime.

  The Bible stands like a mountain tow’ring Far above the works of men;

Its truth by none ever was refuted, And destroy it they never can.

  The Bible stands and it will forever, When the world has passed away;

By inspiration it has been given, All its precepts I will obey.

  The Bible stands every test we give it, For its Author is divine;

By grace alone I expect to live it, And to prove it and make it mine.

Refrain:

The Bible stands though the hills may tumble,

It will firmly stand when the earth shall crumble;

I will plant my feet on its firm foundation,

For the Bible stands.

The Trumpet Of God

 The Bible tells us that nothing is preventing the next event on God’s prophetic calendar, the Rapture of the Church.  It will be preceded just momentarily by the sound of a trumpet and the voice of the Archangel of God heralding the event.  Nothing conjures up more excitement among Christians than our anticipation of the sound of the Trumpet of God.  At the Rapture, Christians who are dead will be raised and those still living will be “caught up” together with them into the presence of the Lord.  Seven destructive years of tribulation will follow for those left behind, and then Jesus will return to reign for a thousand years as King.  After every prophesied event has been fulfilled, our Lord has promised to lead His saints into a land beyond time, to live in His presence forever.

  As I said, the sound of the trumpet is imminent.  Nothing is preventing the beginning of the end.  God has revealed the conditions that will unfold in the seven year tribulation period after the Rapture:  Churches that once stood for the fundamental doctrines of the Bible will fall away from the truth.  They will be self-centered rather than God-centered.  They will erase the lines of distinction that have been drawn with blood down through the centuries, and join themselves together into one idolatrous church.  Israel will be despised by the world and a hostile attitude toward her will prevail.  The economy will become global and small world powers will melt together into colossal empires led by ambitious powermongers.   Already we can see these and many other signs of the times on the horizon.  Time is running out!

  Friend, if the trumpet should sound today, are you ready?  Those who have accepted Christ’s gospel by faith (i.e. His death, burial and resurrection) as God’s satisfactory payment for their sins, have nothing to fear.  Those who spurn the grace of God thinking that they will seek God’s forgiveness later, will wish tomorrow that they had believed today.  God help you to consider the gospel while there is yet time!

The Hope Of A Nation

  What change?  Who said anything about change?  Like the proverbial ostrich with her head stuck in the sand to avoid the present danger, so we stand with all but our attention exposed to the threatening winds of change.  We groan at the effort required to gain even a working knowledge of our social ills; so, the ability to defend our feeble opinions in places of little consequence hardly seems worth the effort.  We have a tendency to leave the fight to the masters of those realms which are unfamiliar to us.

 The masters of the realms in which these changes are debated with consequence, are our politicians, who dedicate their lives to causes that have neither been defined nor understood by the masses they supposedly represent.  And then there are the special interest lobbyists who promote their horrors for hire.  The machinery of our Republic is broken down!

  Evil is at work in our day, and we who stand on the sidelines to cheer or to jeer, are much to blame for the freedoms that are being lost to it.  For the most part we do nothing to stand against the tide.  …But what can we do?  God, the Creator and Sustainer of all that is, has prescribed the answer…

Trust Christ For Forgiveness  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16).”  He is our Hope!

Learn God’s Perspective  “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. (2Timothy 3:16-17).”

Pray  I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;  For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. (1Timothy 2:1-2).”

Besetting Sin

  “I never intended to do it.” “I thought I had victory over this, but now my life is a wreck, and I have disappointed my family and friends AGAIN.”

  Can you relate? You thought you’d never take another drink, never partake of that drug again, never tell another lie, or allow yourself to be entertained by such filth again. You truly believed that you were beyond the moral trap, that you could put your life back together and avoid your besetting sin, but here you are again in the pit, feeling the weight of despair.

  This may be a common predicament, but take no comfort in the fact that you are not alone in the pit. It is no consolation that many stumble, or that the mighty have fallen. There is cause for fear when we console ourselves in sin, because sin is destructive, and its end is always death.

  But there is hope! Jesus spoke of His great desire for us, “To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. (Acts 26:18).” If you are willing to open your eyes and turn from your sin, the forgiveness He offers can be yours by simply placing your trust in Him.

  With our sins forgiven, though still imperfect, we are emboldened by the testimonies of those who walked the path before us, and kept the faith. We can be empowered to lay aside our besetting sins with new resolve not to return to them. As believers we are told to fix our eyes on Jesus who has walked before us in a robe of flesh, and now stands at the end of life’s path, arms outstretched, saying, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28).”

  If we should stumble unwittingly into sin again, as His children, God stands ready to set our feet back on the path of light. He tells us that, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1John 1:9).”

The Debt

  Consider for a moment a family who is well established and productive in society.  Let’s imagine that these good folks realize that technological advancements of the age have produced a myriad of gadgets that, if obtained, could increase their standard of living significantly.  Almost immediately the family’s savings is “invested” in the good life.  Let’s imagine that with the passage of time, other “opportunities for advancement” avail themselves, but since there is no more money, our family must search for new ways to afford them.

  Let’s imagine that this family discovers that it has significant borrowing power, so a second mortgage and numerous credit cards are obtained.  The family quickly spends all the money that it is capable of borrowing.  In desperation for more, they ask creditors to accept their prior purchases as collateral in order to raise their debt ceiling, borrow more money, and make more purchases.  Let’s imagine that before long the family has borrowed so much money that their collective wages are not capable of paying the interest on their loans while sustaining even a moderate standard of living.  They have crossed a line from which there is no return.  Life for them is about to change.

  Now you can stop imagining.  This scenario is about to be lived out in, not a family, but a country, …our country.  Our fiscal irresponsibility, and that of our elected officials, has us at the brink of economic disaster.  If those who spend our nation’s money do not act soon, our country’s economy will be as bankrupt as its morality has already become.  Looks pretty bleak doesn’t it?

  Someone might argue, “If there is no good news, perhaps we would be better served to have no news at all.”  Fortunately, good news abounds.  The Bible, God’s Word, is filled with promises, provisions and principles that are capable of restoring a nation, or rescuing a soul from sin.  It is truly amazing!  Maybe you should take a look!
