Lesson 3 – The Practice of Believers

Lesson 3 begins in Titus 2:1

               

1.  From verse 2:1WHO is it that is to speak “sound doctrine”?

 

2.  Why is “sound doctrine” important?  (Hint: See Titus 1:9; 1:13; 2:2.) 

 

3.  Why do you think it was important for Titus to speak what is consistent with “sound doctrine”?

 

4.  READ: Ephesians 4:1-6   Paul, in speaking to the church, speaks of the unity of the church through godly living.  Going verse by verse, how would you summarize what Paul is saying in the following verses? 

 

                   Verse 1 - WHAT is Paul saying?  WHAT is the vocation Paul is called to?   

 

                 Verse 2 – How does Paul’s ‘walk’ manifest itself? 

 

                    Verse 3 – According to this verse WHY? should we do as Paul says in verses 1 and 2?

 

                    From Verses 4-6, list the description of being “ONE, verse by verse.

 

5.  READ: Ephesians 4:7-16

                               

                    This portion of Chapter 4 speaks of our practice as believers in relationship to our spiritual gifts.   These are the gifts given to us when we were saved.  God gave us these gifts for a specific purpose. 

             Substantiate your answer with the verse reference from Ephesians 4:7-16.

                         a.  Does every saved person have a spiritual gift?  

 

                          b. Who decides the extent of our spiritual gift? 

 

                      c. According to verse 12, what  are the three purposes for our having spiritual gifts?

 

                          d. According to verse 13, this gift is given to us for a lifetime.  What are the goals of accomplishment in this lifetime?

 

                      e. According to verses 14-15, being good stewards of the spiritual gifts given to us will produce good fruit.   What good fruit does it produce?

 

6.  READ:  Ephesians 4:22-32

 

                From this Scripture and noting the verses you are referring to, what instruction is given to counter our ‘old nature’?   

 

              What should be our motivation, from verse 32, “to forgive one another”? 

 

7.  What overall principle(s) can you apply to yourself from this lesson?
