Church History
Corinth Baptist Church has a long and rich history dating back to its inception in 1822. The church began with eighteen members and was chartered as the Independent Baptist Society of East Corinth. In 1913 the Independent Baptist Society and the Free Baptist Society, also of Corinth, united to form a new church called the United Baptist Society. In 1962, due to concern over liberalism, the church withdrew its association from the United Baptist Association / American Baptist Convention becoming an independent Baptist church. In 2005 the church voted unanimously to change its name from United Baptist Church to Corinth Baptist Church so as to remove any confusion that might exist concerning the church’s independent status.
Corinth Baptist Church in its 180 plus year history has had 41 pastors, 4 of which were interim. CBC has been blessed to see several of its membership go on to serve the Lord in a full time capacity as pastors, missionaries, or other full time Christian workers. CBC has always taken its responsibility to the Great Commission seriously and has sought to faithfully proclaim the Gospel in our community, as well as support missionaries around the world. Currently the church is supporting 19 missionaries at $100.00 per month.
As current members of Corinth Baptist Church we are thankful for the great heritage left to us by the members of years gone by. Our aim is to remain as faithful to the Lord in our current generation as our predecessors were in the past. We believe in and look for the imminent return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, but while He tarries, we will strive to carry on so that “ … when He shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.” (1 John 2: 28b)
